The Story

Before launching MZ Wallace our Co-Founder and Designer, Monica Zwirner, had a successful career as a fashion stylist who often worked with legendary fashion photographer, Arthur Elgort. Soon after MZ Wallace launched in 2000 she bumped into Arthur on Crosby Street where he requested a version of a simple camera bag he had used as a young fashion photographer. Monica answered with The Elgort, a compact cross body and carryall that Arthur still wears today.

Fast forward to Spring 2015, when Monica bumped into another Elgort, Arthur’s daughter Sophie. Just like her father 15 years earlier, Sophie was also looking for a bag that would protect her camera, but also look great to take out to dinner after a day of shooting. Thus, they decided to collaborate and Sophie’s Crosby Camera Bag was born. It was during the development process that Monica and Lucy discovered Sophie’s non-profit, Through Our Lens. Believing in the cause to foster a photography career for high school girls and improve diversity in the industry, Monica and Lucy added this collaboration to their #MZWGivesBack program.

To celebrate the launch of Sophie’s Crosby Camera Bag, the original Elgort has been reissued as a limited edition and 100% of the proceeds from sales of both bags will benefit Sophie’s non-profit Through Our Lens.
